The Data Center Engineer position is responsible for the preventative maintenance and support of all the Production/Cert equipment and data network devices in the Cboe colocation data centers. They mount equipment, run cables, and spend most of their time in the data centers nightly performing MAC (Moves/Add/Changes) work as well as small and large company objective data center projects. They make sure the data center does not overheat; they carefully examine power sources and heating and cooling controls as well as troubleshoot and repair servers/network hardware and storage devices. The data center engineers install and arrange new equipment inside the data centers including (servers/network switches/routers/FW’s and storage devices) and must be able to lift and carry equipment up to 75 pounds. This position requires regular physical work installing/upgrading internal systems/components and cable plant along with working directly with our internal Engineering and NOC teams on JIRA tickets. This is a 2nd Shift position Tuesday through Saturday from 2pm to Midnight.
Responsibilities:
Installation and maintenance of all data center infrastructure, network, server and SAN equipment as well as all Telco and connectivity infrastructure and any and all upgrades and repairs to this equipment.
Work with Engineering and Operations teams to troubleshoot system hardware, network and application problems.
Generate and maintain documentation including but not limited to procedures, policies, rack elevation, and inventories.
Work closely with vendors to remedy problems and obtain the highest quality of service possible.
Research new Data Center infrastructure equipment advancements and recommend changes as needed to management.
Requirements:
4+ years experience in data center support. Including server, storage, and network troubleshooting
Basic working knowledge of HVAC, power, fire, building security systems operations, and safety
Working knowledge of telecommunications technologies, systems, and circuits.
Data center skills and experience in installing/moving equipment and cabling on a large-scale basis.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and projects.
Ability to work well in a dynamic team-oriented environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong attention to detail.
Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects.
Team player, desiring to be part of a high-performance team with dynamic responsibilities.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Must be flexible to work different shifts for short periods of time as well as take turns in on call support and travel to various Cboe’s data center locations.
